    PER ASPERA AD ASTRA

    BY LORIS VENEGONI

Per Aspera ad Astra, translated “through the roughness, to the stars,” is an EP developed based on imagery, suggestions and space missions past and present.

The result is an evolutionary soundscape, divided into chapters, simulating the synchronization to a hypothetical audiovisual on the subject.
This is a significant breakthrough for my creative approach, hitherto rather tied to traditional forms of sonification.

My goal was to give voice to the spaces that my mind created, without following stylistic form or production processes canonical.

There was a need to move away from known territory and push into unexplored techniques, and the discovery of novelty was a constant stimulus to delve deeper.

Much material was obtained extemporaneously with respect to the moment of production on the computer, this allowed me to often break away from a metrical “song” and rather have rhythmic or percussive elementsth at followed what came about naturally rather than the other way around as in High Orbit.

There was no shortage of more traditional elements such as the lead line in RUD, while without letting it get stuck on classical forms, or acoustic interventions not as heavily processed as the woods in Zero G.

The approach to the spatial theme was inclusive of the wonders derived from the imaginary, as it was for more evocative openings as in High Orbit and Zero G, but also of incidents using onorities placed in less decipherable such as a deconstructed brass section in Fuel Leakage.
